Happy Holidays from us here at BrookStone Medical Center! We are excited for the new year that is quickly approaching. As mentioned before on our blog, BrookStone Medical Center is spending a large portion of our time and attention on spreading awareness and education about Opioid Dependence. This year we are putting our hard work into action by expanding our counseling and class options in the clinic.
In a medically assisted treatment setting, counseling is imperative. Medication and Counseling resources used together provide the support and tools needed for opioid dependent persons to build a new and better life. Medication, such as Methadone or Buprenorphine (Subutex) provides stability for patients physically. It helps opioid dependent persons feel mental and physical relief knowing they will not be sick from intense opioid withdrawals. Counseling joined with medication, provides the essential knowledge patients (and support persons) should have about addiction, recovery, development and relapse prevention and other skills. Counseling and meetings based around opioid treatment helps clients identify positive thinking, behavior, and lifestyle choices and changes that has the potential to turn their recovery into long term success.
Within Medically Assisted Treatment, counseling can serve as one of the most important components of the program, if clients (and support persons) take full advantage of what it has to offer. It provides clients with a safe place to vent feelings and teaches how to manage difficult life challenges through new approaches, applications and perspectives. Counseling also creates a level of emotional support that is not always available to someone who may have burned bridges with their friends and family.
Currently BSMC offers multiple counseling options. Counseling, groups and classes are all included in the program fee. BSMC advises all clients to take full advantage of the counseling options offered, and use them in their life skills. The counseling schedule is as follows:
Tuesday @ 7pm – Educational
Thursday @ 7pm – Peer to Peer & Family Support
Monday – Thursday 6-11am – One on One counseling, life coaching, educational classes by appointment only
All of these events are listed on the ‘Our Events’ tab and are located at BrookStone Medical Center. We encourage all to come and join in to learn more about opioid dependencies and how to spread awareness and get educated. If you have further questions about the classes we offer, counseling, or educational forums please visit our contact page and a team member will respond to you shortly.
